  • Dr. Bart Basi

     
    Dr. Basi is a specialist in the areas of business succession, business valuation, mergers and acquisitions, retirement and estate planning, strategic planning, and tax aspects of business decisions for closely held and family businesses. He speaks nationwide, writes, and researches on all of these areas. He has written five books, over 300 articles, and has worked with hundreds of businesses and associations. Journals that have published Dr. Basi’s work include Money Matters, The American Journal of Small Business, the Journal of Family Law, The Journal of Estate Planning, The Tax Lawyer, Small Business Taxation, Taxation for Individuals, Taxation for Accountants, Taxation for Lawyers, The CPA Journal and The Tax Executive. Bart instructs our six hour AFTR program our four hour 1040 and Critical Forms and Schedule as well as our 2 hour Ethics program.
  • Roman Basi

     
    Roman practices in the areas of business succession, mergers and acquisitions, retirement and estate planning, real estate, corporation structures. As well tax aspects of business decisions for closely held and family business, trademark applications, trademark oppositions, patent applications. He has also written a workbook on Secured Transactions and Series Limited Liability Companies, in addition to many articles, and has worked with numerous businesses and associations. Roman has been published in the following publications: Illinois State Bar Association Section on Federal Taxation, Productivity, Agency Sales, Industrial Distribution, Supply House Times, Distributor Link and the I.D.A.   • Tanya R. Baber

     
    Tanya is a nationally recognized tax professional and frequent speaker on a variety of tax topics and representation. She has been an Enrolled Agent with the IRS since 2006 and received her Bachelor’s degree in Public Accounting and Business Administration from Colorado Mesa University. Tanya founded Tax Edge, an accounting, tax, and representation firm in her hometown of Grand Junction, CO and has been practicing over 27 years now, giving her a wide range of knowledge and experience to draw from. She helps guide clients across the US and even a few internationally in the areas of accounting and payroll, personal, business, and non-profit tax preparation, planning, consulting and representation as well as solving their complex tax problems. Tanya is a CTRS – Certified Tax Resolution Specialist, a NTPI Fellow, and is a member in good standing of the National Association of Enrolled Agents (NAEA), National Society of Accountants (NSA), The American Society of Tax Problem Solvers (ASTPS), the National Society of Tax Professionals (NSTP), and the National Association of Tax Professionals (NATP). She also serves on the board of directors for a variety of local and national non-profits and volunteers with Search and Rescue in Mesa County to give back to her community. Ms. Baber enjoys teaching advanced level classes to CPA’s, Enrolled Agents, Accountants, and other individuals seeking continuing education credits. She also consults with many accountants on their own resolution cases and provides solutions for their client’s tax and representation difficulties.
  • Ron Trucks

     
    Over 25 years ago, after building his experience in the hospitality industry and working with many business start-ups, Ron Trucks founded his privately owned firm guiding and coaching small businesses and non-profit organizations in a wide variety of fields and industries both in his home town of St. Louis, MO and across the country. In addition to his professional work in small-business support, Ron has also been an Business Management adjunct instructor at Jefferson College in Hillsboro, MO for over 10 years. Over those two decades of both teaching and coaching small businesses and non-profit organizations, Ron has served on various boards and in many volunteer positions including the Board of Directors of a $300 million dollar credit union, developing leadership skills with members of national fraternities and sororities, and working with troubled youth dealing with identity and self-confidence issues.

  • Harry Gutman

     
    As Joint Committee Chief of Staff from 1991 through 1993, Hank was the nonpartisan primary adviser to the House Ways and Means and Senate Finance Committees concerning the technical, economic, and revenue aspects of tax legislation. Hank also served as Deputy Tax Legislative Counsel in the Treasury Department Office of Tax Policy, where he received the Treasury Exceptional Service Award. He was a Professor of Law at the University of Pennsylvania Law School and Associate Professor of Law at the University of Virginia Law School (1980-1989). He was the Principal in Charge of KPMG’s Tax Legislative and Regulatory Service Group from 1999 to 2015 and has been a partner in several law firms.

    Monica Haven is an enrolled agent with J.D. and LL.M. degrees in law and taxation. She is a nationally recognized speaker and a sought-after guest lecturer on college campuses and at community organizations. She loves to teach and welcomes every opportunity to share her experience and expertise in the classroom, even as she maintains her Southern California tax practice which serves clients throughout the world.     Douglas (Doug) Stives, CPA, MBA, is a full-time professor of accounting at Monmouth University in West Long Branch, New Jersey, where he started in 2006. Doug was honored as the Outstanding Business Professor of the Year in 2009 and 2016. He graduated from Lehigh University with a BS in 1968 and an MBA in 1969. Doug started his career at PricewaterhouseCoopers in 1969 and later joined a small CPA firm that became The Curchin Group, located in Red Bank, New Jersey, where he was a partner for 34 years and continues as a consultant.
    In 1989 and 1990, Doug was the youngest president of the New Jersey Society of CPAs. He served the AICPA as a representative to Council, a member of the Tax Division Executive Committee, and chair of several committees. Doug is a frequent speaker for the AICPA and many state CPA societies. He’s been quoted in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Forbes, and other national publications, and he has appeared on CNN, CNBC, PBS, and the three major networks.
    Doug remains active with his college fraternity, the Kappa Alpha Society, where he served as national president for several years. He also served on many charity boards and was chairman of the Community YMCA in Red Bank, New Jersey.
    Doug has been teaching tax courses for Western CPE since 2000, including at conferences and Federal Tax Update seminars and for in-house programs.
  • Patrick McCormick

     
    Patrick is a partner with Culhane Meadows, and practices exclusively in the area of international taxation. Patrick works both with international-domiciled individuals and businesses entering the United States market and United States taxpayers with international connections. His diverse international tax background –previously having been a partner both at a law firm and an accounting firm – gives him a full understanding of the tax complexities posed by multinational connections, and his familiarity with the minutia of international tax law allows him to optimize tax results for his clients. Patrick holds a Juris Doctorate from Vanderbilt University Law School and a LL.M. from New York University School of Law.
    Patrick assists individual clients in areas including residency planning, asset ownership structuring, and minimization of global income tax bills for foreign-sourced income items. For businesses, Patrick’s representation covers an extensive scope of multinational transactions, including classification of foreign entities, options for structuring multinational transactions, and minimization of American anti-deferral tax mechanisms. Patrick assists his clients in all areas where their international ties are a relevant factor.
    Patrick is an active voice in the international tax area, serving as a member of the Tax Law Advisory Board of Strafford Publications and a member of the American Immigration Law Association’s Board of Publications. He is a seasoned speaker, regularly presenting for national organizations including Strafford and CPAacademy.org on both general international tax concepts and more discrete topics. Patrick is a regular contributor to America’s premier tax law publications, including Tax Notes, Journal of Taxation, Tax Notes International, and Law360. Each year from 2016-2020, Patrick has been recognized by Super Lawyers as a Rising Star.     Robert P. Brennan is the sole member of Robert P. Brennan CPA, LLC. Mr. Brennan was an Instructor of Accounting at Holy Family University from 2008 to 2015. Mr. Brennan was a director of CBIZ Accounting, Tax & Advisory, LLC. (CBIZ) located in Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania, and was a shareholder of Mayer Hoffman McCann, P.C., an independent CPA firm.
